Matthew673 Perfect car for back road fun without getting into too much trouble September 21, 2018 328I Coupe sport pkg
Overall Score
My 2007 BMW 328i coupe was my first car, it was an amazing step up from my parents chevy cruze, but not too that I could't handle. Rear wheel drive and a six speed manual made it perfect for twisty back roads and was great on long highway trips as well. On paper, it isn't too impressive; 230hp and a 0-100km time of 6 seconds is nothing to write home about. But that's not what this car is about. If you want straight line speed, go buy a hellcat, this car is for the guy who wants to have fun. 50/50 weight distribution, hydraulic steering, RWD, a naturally aspirated 3L 6cyl, and of course a proper 6 speed manual. All of this makes this car a real drivers car. Obviously you'll have much more fun in a e46 m3 or Porsche cayman, but I paid under $10k for mine, in my opinion it's one of the best budget drivers cars. I haven't had any problems with this car, unlike the 335i this car is super reliable, I've seen many examples of cars with over 250000km. As for fuel efficiency; it reflects your driving, if I fill up with my mom in the car and get on the highway I'll get 650-700km of range, easy, but when I get the chance to really drive the range drops to around 400km, which is still good. The exterior styling is timeless and beautiful. Constantly I get compliments on the styling and shocked faces when I say its 11 years old. The interior is simple, it has all the essentials (power/heated seats, 10 speaker, sunroof, etc, and of course those dumb German cup holders) In summary this is a perfect first car for anyone that wants fun in a car; I know that if I started with a 400hp car, it would probably be wrecked by now. This car is super fun, and it's one of those cars where I can floor it through a back road knowing that it will stay on the road, and also can't get me into too much trouble. The e92 BMW 328i is great in any situation whether it be a fun car just for the weekend or daily driver, you won't be let down.

Issue: This recall is for vehicles that had an inspection performed under recall 2019-599, 2019-600 or 2019-601, but where the airbag inflator was not replaced. This new recall will provide replacement of the airbag inflator. On certain cars, exposure to moisture over time could cause the driver-front airbag not to inflate properly in a crash. In some cases, this could cause an airbag not to fully inflate, while in others it could cause it to deploy with more force than normal. It could also cause the inflator to rupture. If the airbag inflator ruptures, small pieces of metal could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag and prevent its proper function. Safety Risk: In a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the driver-front airbag may not inflate properly or the inflator could rupture. This could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your car to a dealer to replace the driver-front airbag inflator.

Issue: This recall is for certain vehicles that had an airbag inflator replaced as a part of an earlier recall campaign. This recall provides a final repair. Long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety Risk: If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the passenger-front airbag module. On certain vehicles that had the driver's side frontal airbag replaced in the past, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the driver's side frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect the driver's side frontal airbag module, and will replace it, if necessary. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected.

Failure of the fan motor can cause the electrical circuitry of the fan control unit to overload and fail, causing the fan to stop operating. If this were to occur, engine overheating and subsequent engine damage could result. In addition, it is possible for the failure of the electrical circuitry to cause a fire in the fan control unit located in the front of the engine compartment. Correction: Dealers will replace the fan.

On certain 325I and 330I vehicles, the inner rim flange of the wheel rims may have incurred damage during fitting of the tire. In extreme cases, this could lead to a sudden loss of tire pressure and result in loss of vehicle control. Correction: All five wheels will be inspected for damage to the inner rim flange. If pertinent damage is found on any wheel, all five wheels will be replaced.

On certain 323I, 328I, 528I, 528IT, 540I, 540IT, 740I, 740IL, 750IL and M5 vehicles, the brake light switch capacitor housing may be cracked and in high humidity conditions the capacitor and switch housing could become overheated and deformed. As a result, a short circuit or an open circuit could occur in the switch. This could cause the switch to remain either in the "brake lamps off" position or the "brake lamps on" position. If the switch remains in the "off" position, the brake lamps will be rendered inoperative. Conversely, if the switch remains in the "on" position, the brake lamps will be continuously illuminated when the ignition switch is in the "on" position. Correction: Brake lamp switch will be replaced with an improved switch.
